"My goal is to prove the statistics wrong! I'm going to live longer, live better, and love harder."

Soak up your moments! That is what cancer has taught me. I am a mother to five amazing children and when I was diagnosed at 35 years old with stage II-B breast cancer my baby was 2 years old. After a double mastectomy, eight rounds of chemo and several reconstruction surgeries, I thought I had beat it.

In 2013, almost exactly four years to the date I was told my cancer had returned in my bones and lung. The news horrified my family and friends but my faith in God and his perfect plan has helped keep my head above water. As most people with stage IV cancer, I have my good and bad days but I made a decision in 2013 to LIVE! None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, so why not soak up every moment we can with the ones we love? I look at each day as a gift. I spend more time with my kids, I never miss important events, I want them to remember me as their biggest cheerleader.

None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, so why not soak up every moment we can with the ones we love?

My goal is to prove the statistics wrong! I’m going to live longer, live better, and love harder. I want to watch my babies grow up, I’d even like to be an old lady some day.

We need more people to understand this life with mets isn’t going to go away. We aren’t going to take a pill and “get better.” We aren’t going to “beat this” without a cure. We need more people, doctors, scientists and advocates out there focused on metastatic breast cancer. Research NOT ribbons!

So until these doctors and scientists come up with a cure, I’m going to be here soaking up my moments, loving on my babies and sweet husband, and praying that in my lifetime, I get that miracle cure. #soakupyourmoments #savethemamas
