All of those beautiful lives were things I never expected to see.”

I was diagnosed stage 2, HER2+ in 2009. My youngest child was only 12. After a mastectomy, 6 rounds of chemo, and a year of chemotherapy, I thought I was free. But only five months later, cancer was found in my liver.

My oncologist was wonderful. I went to UCSF to have the cancerous half of my liver removed, a rarity. Sadly, a year later it grew back and I then had SBRT. Through it all, my goal was to see my youngest graduate high school. Well, not only was I there to see him graduate from high school, top on his class, but I was there when he graduated from Caltech. He’s now working at Facebook. My older son, who was 22 when I was diagnosed, got married and is expecting his second son. I also have stepdaughters who have given me two grandsons. All of those beautiful lives were things I never expected to see. I have been doing treatment continuously since then and have been in remission for about 5 years.

If you google ButDoctorIHatePink you’ll find me.
