“I’ll never forget what my sweetheart told me when we got in our car to leave. He said, ‘Don’t you dare give up on me.’ I promised him that I would not.”

I discovered a knot in my left breast while I was sleeping and went to the breast cancer doctor. He did a mammogram, biopsy, and ultrasound all in the same day. This was on a Wednesday, and I went back on Friday for the results.

I was told that I had breast cancer in my left breast and in a couple of my lymph nodes. He scheduled an MRI to check if it had spread, and about two weeks later, I was told it had spread to my lungs, liver, and spine — and that it was treatable but not curable.

That turned my world upside down to say the least. This was February 2019, and I’ll never forget what my sweetheart told me when we got in our car to leave. He said, “Don’t you dare give up on me.” I promised him that I would not.

Now I live day-to-day. My fiancé and our daughter have read up on breast cancer, my medications, and all their side effects. I immediately started radiation and towards then end, I started chemotherapy medication. In the midst of that, I had to have my gall bladder removed. It’s been a rough time this year, but God has kept me throughout this journey and plan on continuing to each day as it comes.
